What the app does
Ruleo Bundles & Upsell ("the app") lets merchants show product suggestions (frequently bought together, add-ons, set upgrades, bundles) in their Shopify storefront and apply discounts to them.
Data stored in the merchant's store
The offers a merchant creates are stored as app metafields inside the merchant's own Shopify store. The storefront widget runs inside the merchant's theme and only reads public product data from the store itself. They stay under the merchant's control and are removed by Shopify when the app is uninstalled.
Data stored on our servers
To run the app inside the Shopify admin we store a small amount of installation data on our own server: the store's myshopify domain, the access token Shopify issues to the app, the granted permissions and, for signed-in staff, Shopify's numeric user ID and the token's expiry. This data is needed to authenticate requests from the Shopify admin and to call the Shopify API on the merchant's behalf. It is deleted when the app is uninstalled and at the latest when Shopify sends the shop/redact request 48 hours after uninstallation.
To show the merchant's plan, our server asks Shopify which app subscription the store has (plan, billing interval, trial end). The answer is kept in memory for a few minutes only and is not written to disk.
The server is hosted by Fly.io, Inc. in Frankfurt, Germany. The hosting provider keeps technical access logs (IP address, time, requested path) for a short period for security and operations.
Checkout data
To apply offer discounts, Shopify runs the app's discount function inside Shopify's own infrastructure and passes the cart contents to it. For offers that the merchant limits to customers with certain tags, Shopify also tells the function whether the signed-in customer has one of those tags (yes or no per tag, no other customer data). This data is used only to calculate the discount. It is never stored, logged or transmitted by the app, and it never reaches our servers.
Order statistics
To determine the plan a store needs (monthly order volume) and to show merchants how their offers perform, Shopify notifies our server about new orders. From each order we keep only: the order ID, the order date, the order total and currency, whether it is a test order, and the revenue and quantity of items that were added through a Ruleo offer. We do not store customer names, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, addresses, or the products ordered. These statistics are used solely for the plan counter and the analytics page of the merchant. They are kept for 13 months at most, and are deleted immediately when the app is uninstalled and at the latest when Shopify sends the shop/redact request.
So that merchants can find these orders in their order list, the app adds a tag (by default "Ruleo Bundles & Upsell") to orders that contain an item added through a Ruleo offer. Merchants can rename or turn off this tag in the app settings. No other order data is changed.
Personal data of customers
Apart from the order statistics described above, the app does not collect, store or share personal data of the merchant's customers. When Shopify sends a customer redaction request, the statistics of the orders named in that request are deleted. When Shopify sends a customer data request, the app records the statistics it holds for the orders named in that request (order ID, date, order total, revenue and items from offers), and we send them to the merchant within 30 days. These records are deleted after 90 days, with a redaction request for the same customer, or when Shopify sends the shop/redact request.
Cookies and tracking
The app sets no tracking cookies and uses no analytics or advertising services. Shopify may set technical cookies required for the embedded admin.
Third parties
Data is shared only with Shopify (as the platform the app runs on) and Fly.io (as hosting provider). We do not sell data and do not pass it to anyone else.
Merchant data and support
The app has no account system of its own. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to answer the request.
Your rights
You may ask us at any time what data we hold about your store and request its correction or deletion. Uninstalling the app triggers deletion automatically.
